GAUGE: 5 V-sts + 8 rows = 4" (10 cm) in pattern. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

STITCH EXPLANATION:

V-st Work 2 dc into 1 ch or 1 sc.

NOTES:

Afghan is worked vertically from one side to the other with 2 strands of yarn held tog throughout.

AFGHAN

With 2 strands of B held tog, ch 103.

Row 1 Work 1 V-st into 5th ch from hook *skip 1 ch, 1 V-st into next ch; rep from * across, end last rep 1 dc in last ch. Fasten off 1 strand B, join 1 strand C . 49 V-sts. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2
(WS) With 1 strand B and 1 strand C held tog, 1 sc in first dc, ch 1, *1 sc in between the 2 dc of V-st, ch 2; rep from * across, end 1 sc in between the 2 dc of last V-st, ch 1, 1 sc in top of turning ch. Ch 2, turn.
Row 3
(RS) Skip first sc, 1 V-st into each sc across, end 1 dc in last sc. Fasten off 1 strand B, join 1 strand C. Ch 1, turn.

Edging
Rows 1-2
With 2 strands A held tog, rep pattern Rows 2 and 3 above.
Row 3 (WS) Slip st in between the first dc and first V-st, *ch 2, slip st in between the next 2 V-sts; rep from * across, end last rep slip st in between the last V-st and dc of row. Ch 1, turn.
Row 4 (RS) In first ch-2 space, *work slip st, ch 2, slip st in same space; rep from * in next and each ch-2 space across, end slip st in last slip st of row. Fasten off.

Working edging on foundation ch edge With WS of Afghan facing, join A/A into corner ch-space.

Row 1 (WS) Ch 1, sc into the same ch-space, ch 1, * sc into loop at the base of next V-st, ch 2; rep from * across, end last rep ch 1, 1 sc into loop of last dc of row. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2 (RS) Rep Row 3 of Afghan pattern st.
Rows 3 and 4 Rep Rows 3 and 4 of Edging for first side. Fasten off.

Fringe
Matching color combinations, cut 6 strands, each 11" long, for each 2 rows of stripe. (For example, for Rows 4-5, cut 6 strands of C. For Rows 6-7, cut 3 strands C and 3 strands D.) Fold the 6 strands in half. Insert crochet hook through open space at one corner of lower edge of afghan and pull folded end of strands through to form loop, then pull through loop and tighten. Attach fringe evenly along rem edges of Afghan. Trim fringe.
